Arequipa City Tour

Trip summary

At A&R Peru Travel, we believe that every city is more than its streets and buildings—it is a living story, shaped by time, tradition, and the spirit of its people. Arequipa, celebrated as the “White City,” is a place where history and culture are etched into the very stone that built it. Surrounded by majestic volcanoes and blessed with clear skies, this city is not only one of Peru’s most beautiful destinations but also a vibrant reflection of Andean resilience and Spanish legacy.

The Arequipa City Tour is your gateway to discovering the soul of this remarkable city. As you wander through its UNESCO-recognized historic center, you will marvel at the brilliant white façades carved from volcanic sillar, each one a silent witness to centuries of artistry and devotion. The Main Square, with its elegant Cathedral and colonial arches, offers a stunning introduction to Arequipa’s architectural treasures. From there, you’ll be guided into peaceful cloisters, charming colonial mansions, and hidden courtyards that tell stories of nobility, faith, and cultural fusion.

One of the highlights of the tour is the Monastery of Santa Catalina, often described as a “city within a city.” Its labyrinth of narrow streets, colorful walls, and serene plazas reveals a world once secluded from the outside, where history and spirituality intertwine. Walking through its alleys feels like traveling back in time, offering both beauty and mystery.

But Arequipa is not only about monuments—it is alive with bustling markets where aromas of traditional cuisine fill the air, artisans continue ancestral crafts, and daily life flows with warmth and authenticity. The surrounding volcanoes—Misti, Chachani, and Pichu Pichu—rise above the city as eternal guardians, reminding every visitor of the natural forces that shaped both the land and the stone.

This journey is more than a city tour—it is an invitation to connect with Arequipa’s essence: a harmonious blend of colonial charm, indigenous heritage, and breathtaking landscapes. By the end of the experience, you will not only have seen Arequipa, but truly felt its soul.
